Introduction
Based on the collection of funds, each year SANA awards several scholarships to meritorious and poor Sindhi students in Sindh
The scholarships are awarded in the following categories:
- Undergraduate Studies in Sciences - $200.00 each.
- Post-graduate Studies in Social Sciences and Humanities - $400.00 each.
- Undergraduate Studies with major in Sindhi Language, Sindhi Literature, Sindh History, etc. - $200.00 each.
- Post-graduate Studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi Literature, Sindh History, etc. - $400.00 each.
- Students of Nursing Colleges and Pharmaceutical Colleges - $250.00 each.
The successful students are paid the scholarship amount in equivalent Rupees at their address in Sindh.
For every academic year, the SANA FAME Scholarship committee invites applications through announcement at:
- SANA website www.sanalist.org
- Sanalist,
- Sindh based lists
- Mehran TV,
- Newspapers in Sindh, such as Kawish.
The above announcement also identifies specific date for receiving application, review process period, and date for announcing the list of successful applicants.

The list of successful applicants is announced on the SANA website and on Sanalist. Also each successful applicant is informed via e-mail address provided in their completed forms. The successful applicants will be asked to provide the bank details to SANA Treasurer so that funds can be transferred to their account.

A. Applying directly at the SANA website.
B. Printing forms available on the SANA website and submitting via mail
A. Applying directly at the SANA website
- On the SANA website, select “Related Link” of the FAME Scholarships Program
- Select “Form Category A - Under Graduate Studies” or “Form Category B - Graduate Studies”.
- Enter the required information on the selected form.
- Scan the documents listed under The Attachments, as specified below. Download on your pc and attach the scanned copy for each document as required on the form.
- Select Submit, when above is complete.
B. Printing forms and submitting via mail (post)

The Attachments
The properly completed form is to be attached with following documents. Please read the instruction as mentioned below under Note:
- Proof of admission in the University/College
- Attendance Record of the current semester
- Attested copies of mark sheets for Class X, Class XII, and university examinations mentioned in the form
- Original family income certificate
- An autobiographical essay (one page), hand written in English or Sindhi

For attaching above documents, please note the following:
- For documents 1, 2, and 3, obtain the photo-copies. Each photo-copy shall be properly attested with the signature and stamp of the person attesting the documents.
- For document 4, the original certificate shall be attested as above.
- The document 5 shall be attached in original.
The Selection Procedure
The review and selection process is conducted by the combined team of the SANA FAME Scholarship Committee. The application review process includes separation of application forms in various specified categories and the review of applicant’s information on forms and on the attached documents. Based on this review process, the applications are ranked as per the merit and the family's yearly earnings.
Any application received during this review period is also included in the process.
The Scholarships
The scholarships are awarded in two categories
- Students of Undergraduate Studies
- Students of Postgraduate Studies
Scholarships for Undergraduate Studies
Purpose: To financially support the education of meritorious Sindhi Students who are pursuing bachelor’s degree at a university in Pakistan.
Area of Study: The Undergraduate Scholarships are further grouped into:
- Sciences such as General Sciences, Engineering, Medical Science, and Agriculture.
- Major in Sindhi Language, Sindhi Literature, Sindh History, Sindhi Art (Music), etc.
- Major in Nursing and Pharmaceutical
Qualifications: Candidates should have passed the intermediate examination and should be admitted to any of the universities in Pakistan in the above specified areas of study. The selection will be based on academic excellence as well as the financial need of the applicant.
Application Procedure: Download the above application form and mail the completed application form along with documents.
Amount of Award: The amount of each scholarship is US $250 each year for one time payment.
Scholarships for Postgraduate Studies
Purpose: To financially support the education of meritorious Sindhi Students who are pursuing higher degrees in research topics at a university in Pakistan.
Area of Study: The Postgraduate Scholarships are further grouped into:
- General Sciences, Engineering, Medical Science, Agriculture, Fine Arts, Literature, History, Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, Economics, Linguistics, , Communications, International Relations, and Journalism. Students in other fields or social sciences and humanities can also apply.
- Major in Sindhi Language, Sindhology, Sindhi Literature, Sindh History, Sindhi Art (Music), etc.
- Major in Nursing and Pharmaceutical
Qualifications: Applicants must be currently enrolled in MA, M. Phil, or Ph.D program in any recognized university in Pakistan. The selection will be based on academic excellence as well as the financial need of the applicant.
Application Procedure: Download the above application form and mail the completed application form along with documents.
Amount of Award: The amount of each scholarship is US $500 for one time payment in one academic year.
For an academic year, the scholarship award is only for one time payment. For next academic year, the applicant that qualifies for the above specified conditions, need to apply again for the scholarship.
The SANA FAME Scholarships Program is fully funded by the generous contributions by SANA members. The Fund amount is collected, managed, and distributed by SANA Treasurer. The program is managed by SANA FAME Scholarships Committee. The committee chairman is selected by SANA Executive Counsel. The chairman selects the committee team members.

Scholarships Award Procedure and Selection Criteria
History and Background
In 1998, SANA Executive Council formed a SANA FAME Scholarships Committee.
The Committee members were:

In the same year, SANA awarded 4 scholarships in the following categories:
- 2 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences
- 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities
Total 4 scholarships with total amount awarded $1500
In 2003 the present SANA FAME Scholarships Committee took charge, and for the academic year 2003-2004, managed to award 6 scholarships in the following categories:
- 4 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences
- 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities
Total amount awarded $2,000.00
For the academic year 2004-2005, the SANA FAME Scholarships were increased to 13 in the following categories:
- 11 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences
- 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities.
Total amount awarded $3,796.00
For the academic year 2005-2006, the SANA FAME Scholarships were increased to 24:
- 16 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences
- 4 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities
- One scholarship for undergraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc.
- One Scholarship for Postgraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc.
- 2 Scholarships for Nursing College Students.
Total amount awarded $7,250.00
For the academic year 2006-2007, the SANA FAME Scholarships Committee decided to increase the scholarships to 40. For the same academic year, for 155 applicants only 37 scholarships were awarded due to limited collected funds. Total amount awarded $10,597.00
For the academic year 2007-2008, SANA awarded 31 scholarships in
the following categories:
- 24 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences
- One scholarship for Postgraduate studies in International relations
- One scholarship for undergraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc.
- 4 Scholarships for Nursing College Students
- One Scholarship for undergraduate studies in Pharmacy
For the academic year 2008-2009, SANA awarded 43 scholarships in the following categories:
- 37 scholarships for Undergraduate studies in sciences
- 2 scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Social Sciences and Humanities
- One Scholarships for Postgraduate studies in Sindhi Language, Sindhi literature, Sindh History, etc.
- 2 Scholarships for Nursing College Students
- One Scholarships for undergraduate studies in Pharmacy
In response to the invitation of applications, every year averagely 300 to 400 applications are received from the students of the following educational institutions:

- Liaquat University of Medical and Health Science, Jamshoro
- Dow Medical College, Karachi
- NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi

- Peoples Medical College for Girls, Nawabshah
- National Textile University, Faisalabad
- Chandka Medical College, Larkana
- Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering Science & Technology, Nawabshah
- Sindh Agriculture University, Tando Jam
- Sachal College of Nursing, Khairpur
Dr. Feroz Ahmed – Brief Introduction
Dr. Feroz Ahmed was a professor in the School of Social Work at Howard University Washington D.C. He received his doctorate in demography from the John Hopkins University School of Public Health and did his post doctoral research at Harvard University's Center for population studies. Dr. Ahmed taught at several universities in the United States, Canada and Pakistan, and lectured worldwide during the last twenty years.
Dr. Ahmed is the author of twenty books and monographs. He has published over thirty scientific papers in peer review journals and nearly three hundred articles in daily papers and popular magazines. He was the founding editor of the critical magazine Pakistan Forum which was published in early 1970's, in Urdu, from Karachi, Pakistan. In addition, he was a regular contributor to Africans (Paris) and Viewpoint (Lahore). The broad range of subjects on which Dr. Ahmed has written include sociology, political economy, politics, demography and epidemiology. Dr. Feroz Ahmed Died in April 1997.

Our contribution to ease their financial hardships may be considered small, but, it is our appreciation of their hard work that makes a big difference.
