Question of Life & Death
Sassui Palijo
All of us are very well aware of the importance of water. NO WATER NO LIFE. Water is not only important for human body and human life but also plays vital role in agriculture purpose. Pakistan is basically an agricultural country where Sindh totally depends on its crops. Comparatively to Punjab, the yearly average rain record of Sindh is very low; in that case Sindh has to depend on her river. Immense shortage of water means complete famine. Everybody knows the results of famine, people would be famished very soon, no agricultural products, only hunger, thirst, diseases, unemployment, depression, suicide .No progress of anything except of DEATH. And extreme miserable conditions. It is not the story of the present time; Infact Punjab has always tried to steal our water, and has succeeded, still stealing it. Whenever it is the matter of water, it is always Punjab who makes the ultimate decisions about Sindh's water. Punjab made the deal signed the agreements and treaty that is always one sided. For that bigotry, Punjab gives wrong logics and analysis.
AN ADVERSITY FOR SINDH
Kalabagh dam is being represented as a project of cheap electricity. But infact in this way Punjab wants to get its own agricultural, political and monetary benefits. Two canals, left bank high level out let and right bank high level out let would be drawn, which will flow 15-15 thousand cubic water (the quantity would be more than our Rohri canal).Mianwali, Khoshab and Jhelum districts from left canal and Dera Ismail Khan and Karam agency from right canal will be fertilized. According to the project left canal would fertilize 3 lacks 80 thousands acres and right canal will be watering 20 lacks 12 thousands acres, means in total 23 lack and 92 thousand acres would be fertile in this way .The land of four districts, which is always cultivated by rain now will be fertilized by a dam. Besides getting agricultural profit Punjab wants to get the royalty from 3600 megawatt electricity produced by Dam, these both advantages cannot be taken by Bhasha or another dam the third aim of Punjab regarding building a dam is to keep the head works of men flow of Sindh. In this way Punjab would be able to have control on Sindh and Seraiki belt. Sindh that is already running out of water now will be completely dried. Punjab steals Sindh's water by link canals and if head works takes place in Punjab, Sindh will lose even more water. On the other hand India also will take its share of water which is about 28 million-acre, here again Punjab will cheat and will take that water from Sindh's portion. Lar would be completely salted. This situation would destroy the sea life and will increase water pollution. Other terrible condition would be created when Arabic Sea will immerse a large region of Sindh. Kalabagh Dam is not only very harmful and dangerous for Sindh; it also could create a big problem for NWFP, since flow besides dividing the region will cause floods, which would be very destructive.
Our Government says there is a lack of electricity that is why Kalabagh Dam is
irresistible, well if situation is that much worse, then what about exporting
the electricity to India and planning to make a deal about it. After facing
immense controversy Govt. is planning to give a new name to this evil dam,
perhaps Pakistan Dam will be the new name, but it should be kept in mind that
new dam will cause the same adversity, which will convert our fertile and
verdant land into desert intensely.
It is a question of life and death, but Sindh government is only trying to save
its own position, Sindh government specially Mr. Liaquat Jatoi instead of
resisting this project is favoring it. My good fellow, this problem is not only
a problem of our leaders, its not there family matter it is our problem too. If
you are ready to withdraw from your national right and identification then can
keep silence but if you are considering yourself a real son of Sindh then do
protest against this evil and stand firmly to your resistance against of this
war of water. Save your land because it is her who has given you birth and
identification, that is why today you are here stepping forward for your better
future.
